Discovering 3D scanning
I became interested in scanning people and turning those scans into digital 3D models that could then be prepared for printing.
StatYou started from an interest in 3D scanning, but it became something much more personal after I lost my grandad.
Before StatYou existed, I had started experimenting with 3D scanning and learning how a real person could be captured digitally and turned into a physical model.
I became interested in scanning people and turning those scans into digital 3D models that could then be prepared for printing.
I started exploring modelling, 3D printing and the different ways a person's appearance could be reproduced as a physical statue.
After my grandad passed away, the idea stopped being just an interesting 3D project and became something much more personal.
After he passed away, I wanted to create a physical statue of him using the same kind of technology I had been exploring.
The problem was that I had never scanned him. There was no 3D scan, no digital model and no way to go back and capture one. What I did have were photographs.
Using the photographs I had, I worked on recreating his appearance, clothing and features as a custom digital 3D model.
Existing family photographs were used to understand his appearance from as many useful angles as possible.
The photographs became visual reference while his likeness was rebuilt as a custom 3D sculpture.
Once the model was ready, I prepared and printed it so the digital recreation became something physical I could hold.
The finished model was more than another 3D print. It was a memorial of someone important to me, created from the photographs we had left.
That is where StatYou came from. Most people have never had themselves, their parents or their grandparents professionally 3D scanned. But nearly everyone has photographs.
Creating my grandad's statue showed me that those photographs could be used as the starting point for something completely different: a custom physical replica that could be displayed, gifted or kept as a memorial.
That idea became StatYou.
The same idea that started with one memorial statue now allows customers to create custom 3D models from photographs they already have.
No specialist scanning equipment is required for our standard service.
Every statue starts as a custom digital sculpture made for that order.
Your finished model is prepared, printed and quality checked in Birmingham.
From memorials to family keepsakes, each statue has its own story behind it.
Every order is personally reviewed and managed from the photographs you provide through to the finished print.
StatYou is not a catalogue of generic figures. Each model is created individually for the person, memory or moment behind it.
Create Your StatueStatYou began because I wanted to preserve the memory of my grandad. Today, that same idea is used to help other people turn meaningful photographs into custom 3D statues of their own.
Choose your statue, place your order and send us your photographs. We will take care of the modelling, printing and finishing.
